The world is changing; we are living longer than we ever have before and, by the year 2030, one in five Americans will be over the age of 65!

With this change in our society, we find that the older generation presents families and professionals with a new set of challenges: helping aging individuals live the best life possible, given declining physical health and memory loss.

That’s what Comfort Makers all about… professional evaluations, expert advice, and RN coordinated medical care. We make a difference in the lives of seniors and their families by simply being a resource that has a positive influence on the well-being of each family and senior we work with!

Our staff includes experienced, reliable, and compassionate people selected for their ability to provide care that meets Comfort Maker’s high standards.

Meet Katie, the owner of Comfort Makers

Geriatric Care Manager, Registered Nurse, and Aging Specialist, Katie Klem, helps seniors and their families navigate the complexities of growing older. She understands that coordinated medical care is a critical element of successful care management, but working with the individual’s unique circumstances, personality, and lifestyle are equally important.

A native of Oregon and local resident all her life, Katie understands the unique culture of our county and the resources available in our local communities. As the Founder of Positive Journey, LLC, and Comfort Makers, she is committed to providing local seniors and their families options and choices that support the best possible life, considering their special circumstances and unique needs.

Why choose Comfort Makers?

  • Our focus is on your aging loved one. Hospital or insurance-based case managers are employees of the health care system. They are competent professionals; however, their focus is to address the issues of patients within the institution and to make efficient use of services for their organization.

  • We are local. We live, work, and are based in Columbia County and provide continuity of care across all settings.

  • We focus on improving the aging adult's quality of life. Senior advisors are paid referral fees to suggest elder care facilities. Only those facilities willing to pay a finder's fee will be included in their list of suggestions, even if a better option may exist.

  • We are independent and objective; we work for you because we are paid directly by you, our focus is 100% on the needs of your family and your aging loved ones. We apply our considerable skill and years of training to your unique situation.

What makes Comfort Makers unique?

  • There are no minimum hours of services required to become a customer

  • Families select the caregiver of their choice

  • Families decide how much they will pay per hour based on their situation

  • Comfort Makers can start services TODAY.....on the same day of your call

  • Comfort Makers staff are selected no just for their experience, but, also reliability and compassion

We offer expertise regarding:

  • Health and disability: Through assessments and experience, we can help you understand what your loved one does well, and in what areas he or she could use additional help.

  • Finances: A review of the current monetary situation will result in a plan to make resources stretch as efficiently as possible while maintaining the desired level of comfort, dignity, and safety.

  • Housing: Based on our assessment, recommendations can be made for optimal living situations now, with a view to likely changes in the foreseeable future.

  • Family: Sibling disagreements and old family history often make the aging journey difficult. Our training provides for skilled facilitation of family meetings and the creation of a plan that takes everyone's needs into account.

  • Local Resources: There are programs available to help, but it's challenging to know which one is the most appropriate for your situation. Save time and money by letting us objectively evaluate the situation and connect you to the resources best suited to your needs.

  • Advocacy: Our comprehensive knowledge of the disjointed health care system allows us to monitor quality and advocate for the care and treatment your family wants.

  • Legal: Let us help you identify issues and get key paperwork in order.

  • Crisis Intervention: The unexpected is simply a fact of life in aging. We are experienced with elder emergencies and are ready to jump in at a moment's notice.

“Comfort Makers was just the ticket for me. My family was busy with work and a new born grand daughter. My daughter, an RN found them. They were flexible, providing 1.5 hours in home help twice a day. I only needed them for a short time. I had just come home from the hospital after having my second total knee replacement. They were able to provide a variety of services including shopping, cleaning, carrying the heavy (to me) Berg Polar Care Cube which cools your knee alleviating pain. I healed quickly from my surgery and only needed their services for about a week. The were affordable, reliable, professional and flexible. I highly recommend their services should your family need some help.” — Ross Dickinson
